Did you know chewing gum is the second most common form of litter in the world behind cigarette butts? And not only that, but most gum you get from the store these days is made of synthetic polymer, so it's plastic pollution. In fact, all those dark spots on the sidewalk are really pieces of gum that have been thrown on the ground and squashed flat over time. Does anyone know just exactly how many there are? Hundreds of Thousands? Millions? Together, we can solve the mystery.
Be a Gum Shoe and document gum litter in your neighbourhood with the first app of its kind: the GumShoe Map App. Inspired by the documentary Dark Side of the Chew, the GumShoe Map app lets you take a photograph of those spots and upload it to the cloud where you can access the GumShoe Analysis App to view and analyze the amount of gum droppings people have documented around the world. From your own city to anywhere around the world, gum pollution exists, and this crowd sourced application will let us quantify what won't be an invisible problem much longer.
How to use the app:
• Turn on location services
• Use the iPhone’s camera to take pictures of gum spots on sidewalks, shopping malls, outside pubs, street corners anywhere!
• Identify gum spots in the picture
• Upload the picture to the cloud
• Take another picture
• Visit the web site to view your gum picture and others
